Finding the Inspo...

Some people find they already have their hairstyle in mind or the makeup look that suits them - others really don't know where to start. It's completely normal to not know what you want or what will suit you.

The best place to start thinking about this the internet! There are pros and cons to this of course... pros include lots of inspiration (too much!) and the cons include lots of touched up images that aren't a true representation of a persons skin texture, body shape or colourings.

Pinterest has a plethora images perfect for Brides, just be aware that some of the popular images that we as makeup artists see from there have been circulating for sometimes a decade so aren't current trends. Instagram probably has the most current imagery.

It's really, REALLY important to look for images of brides that look like you! Same hair colour, length (if visible), skin tone, face shape and or a wedding dress that has the same neckline/shoulders/sleeves/back as yours.

Are you planning to wear a veil? If you are please read my guide on Veils and wear to place them.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Are a hair up or hair down gal?
  • Do you want to see pieces in the front framing your face or do you prefer it off your face?
  • Is your ceremony inside or outside? (wind factor) No point planning a perfect glam wave if you are stepping into any wind!
  • Generally I suggest you grow your hair as long as you can if you want an updo and your hair is on the shorter side. And alternatively, if you are having a downstyle you will want to make sure the ends are cut to suit your style. (we discuss)
  • Veil and/or hair clips/accessories?
  • Do you usually wear makeup day to day or when you go out for a special occasion?
  • How's your skin texture? Just like a painting - your makeup will be a result of how smooth your surface is. There are lots of ways to improve this...
  • If you have always wanted to try something new and trending with your makeup, don't start on your wedding day. That's just my opinion and from my experience of creating Bridal Makeup looks over the past 19 years.
  • Honestly, most Brides want to look modern, youthful, glowing, radiant, pretty and the best version of themselves - nothing different.
